Respect for Life MASS Dec 28th 2008

Posted by Picasa

The tradition of an annual respect life Mass in the diocese continues on

Sunday, December 28, Feast of the Holy Family.

The Mass for pro-life intentions will be offered at

11:45 a.m. at the

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Waterloo Street, Saint John NB

Monsignor Brian Henneberry, V.G.,

will be the celebrant and homilist.

Peter Ryan of the Mother and Child Welcome House, a pro-life centre located next to the Morgentaler abortion clinic in Fredericton, comments that in past years the Mass has been held in Fredericton. “This year we thought it would be good to have it at the mother church of our diocese,” he said. “Msgr. Henneberry graciously agreed."

In the liturgical calendar December 28 is ordinarily the Feast of the Holy Innocents, “an ideal occasion for remembering the unborn victims of abortion,” said Ryan. However, because the date falls on Sunday this year the Feast of the Holy Family takes precedence. Ryan said the latter is still an appropriate time to pray for the unborn.
“When we contemplate the Holy Family we think of the mystery of how the Word of God became flesh first as an unborn child in Mary’s womb and then made His appearance that first Christmas. The fact God became a little child underscores how every child’s life is sacrosanct.”

Several years ago Pope John Paul said that “a great prayer for life is urgently needed.” With more than 100,000 babies aborted each year in Canada, that need very much remains. Prayer is a concrete way we can help mothers facing difficult pregnancies to choose life.

Prayer is also a way to help those dealing with pregnancy loss to find healing in the arms of a loving God.

Hope to see you all there!!
